Top 10 Antivirus Software

The computer viruses these days are more complicated and aggressive than ever. But, thanks to the anti-virus software available these days, you can assertively keep your data safe and your computer completely free of infection.

I. BitDefender 2008

The best way to defend your computer against computer viruses, spyware, hackers and spam is BitDefender 2008. BitDefender 2008 is an exceptional product with a user–friendly interface that scans all existing files on your computer as well as all incoming and outgoing emails, IM transfers and all other network traffic.

This latest version of BitDefender comes with a new Gamer Mode feature that reduces impact on gaming performance which allows you to play safe. The software continues to have all of the dependable features for which BitDefender is known.

II. KasperSky

KasperSky receives a faultless score on our evaluation, passes almost all of the major virus tests, has hourly definition updates and proffers a wide-ranging feature set. KasperSky comes with three types of scan levels: Maximum, which carefully scans all files, self-extracting archives, startup objects, disk boot sectors, system memory and email format files. Normal level which covers all the maximum setting covers except for the email format files. The High Speed level scans everything except for the email format files, archives and startup objects.

III. ESET Nod32

ESET's Nod32 has an exceptional virus detection rate. This software has a number of convenient features to help you monitor your computer's security including outbreak notices and history/report logging. Nod32 has two different ways to run the program. You can run a simple Nod32 scan or you can spend more time using the control center. Within the control center you can have access to tons of customization feature and different types of scans-DMON, IMON, EMON and more.

IV. Trend Micro (Pc-Cillin)

This anti-virus has protocols for protecting PCs against viruses, worms and Trojan horses as well as spyware, rootkits and malware. It scans incoming files real–time, including emails, downloads and files from portable storage devices. You can also schedule scans, run customized scans or conduct a scan on demand.

V. F-Secure Anti-Virus

Not only does thoroughly scan your PC for viruses, but it also has a built-in anti-spyware scanner. One or the other or both can be run to cut down on scan times. Moreover, the program scans outgoing and incoming email in real-time, does a great job of shielding your registry against probable hijackers and controls which programs startup automatically. F-Secure has a news section that can be used to sign up for virus alerts and updates of what is going on in the virus world.

VI. McAfee VirusScan 2007

McAfee is an industry leader in computer protection and VirusScan is their #1 defense against viruses. This software comes with a ScriptStopper, to stop viruses to spread from one computer to another via email, and WormStopper. Some downsides to the program are that it does not offer instant message protection, P2P/file sharing protection or registry startup protection.

VII. Norton Antivirus

Norton, one of the leaders in security software, offers viable antivirus protection. The software is easy to use and has wide-ranging security features to protect your PC from malicious programs. Some of this protection includes instant messaging scanning, script blocking and POP3 and SMTP email protection. But, this software does not provide protection from P2P or file sharing transfers.

VIII. AVG Anti-Virus Pro

AVG Anti-Virus has everything that is needed in an antivirus program ranging from email scanning to include email attachments, boot scanning and auto updating of the virus definitions. From the basic interface, you can quickly carry out one of three tests: the Complete Test, Removable Media Test and Quick Test. It also allows you to generate an MS-DOS Rescue Disk from the Control Center.

IX. CA Antivirus

Previously known as eTrust EZ Antivirus, CA Antivirus is a user-friendly program which is good for computer apprentice and does a good job defending your files and your computer from viruses. But this software does not scan for riskware, adware or spyware. CA includes a new facet called Snooze that disables the program's real-time protection for a user-specified period-from one to 99 minutes.

X. Norman Virus Control

This software is not as easy to use as some of the top-ranked products and may be difficult for computer novices. Norman Virus Control is more complicated to use because there is no central command center where you can access all the features and components of the program. Outgoing and incoming mails are scanned and you can incorporate or keep out attachments in the screening. You can also right-click on a file or folder to scan instantly for viruses and adware.
