Protecting Yourself From Rootkits

As already stated, no commercial package exists to completely and efficiently guard against rootkits.

Many rootkits are patched with viruses. A system can be guarded by ensuring it is secure against known threats and vulnerabilities. Regular update of anti-virus systems and avoidance of opening email attachments and rejection of files from unknown sources also helps. Caution must also be taken to check what sort of software you install. You should also read the EULAs in details as some of them state that a particular type of rootkits will be installed.
