Detecting A Rootkit
No commercial product exists that can detect and remove rootkits. Various methods exist to scan memory areas to look for hooks caused by rootkits.
However, these are generally not automated tools, and the few that are available look only for specific rootkits. Bizarre or strange behavior on your computer is a possible indication of rootkits. Security experts advise a complete rebuild of a rootkit-compromised system in order to ensure a full removal of a rootkit. Even if files and processes linked to a rootkit are found, this does not ensure a thorough removal of the rootkit.
A complete system erase completely eliminates the rootkit.
